More information is available on plans for the ‘East-West Railway' to link Oxford and Bedford, via Bicester and Bletchley. These plans, which have the backing of the South-East England Regional Assembly, as well as a number of local authorities, could involve double track and hourly 100 mph trains, cutting Oxford-MK journey times to as little as 35 minutes.

Planning Permission was granted in July 2006, for the development of the land between Gavray Drive and the railway line for some 500 homes, a new primary school, open recreation space and a Country wildlife site.

New council powers were introduced on 6th April 2006 to crack down on environmental crimes including graffiti and fly-posting. Measures under the clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act enable local authorities in England and Wales to issue on-the spot-fines.
